BRINGING BACK TO LIFE AN OBJECT FULL OF HISTORY

There are some objects that simply cannot be replaced. Not for their monetary value, but for what they represent. Such is the case with this cane, entrusted to me by a man who treasured it as if it were a treasure. This cane had seen the world. Marked by time, scratched, broken in places, a little wobbly... but still solid in its essence.

My role in this project was to restore it as close as possible to its original state, while respecting the marks of time. Clean without erasing. Strengthen without betraying. I worked on every detail to restore it to its former presence—the one it had when it proudly accompanied its owner, day after day.

A nuanced restoration

The knob has been repaired to provide a more comfortable grip.

The wood was cleaned and restored with a finish that allows its patina to breathe. The tip—a little damaged—was reinforced so that it could once again accompany its owner on their daily walks, without fear of it breaking. It's not a spectacular transformation. And that's precisely the beauty of the gesture. Preserving the soul of an object. Ensuring that each scar still tells its story, but without preventing it from moving forward. This simple yet profoundly meaningful restoration brought me back to the very essence of my craft.

Why I do this job

This kind of project reminds me why I chose to work with wood in the first place. It's not just a material, it's a link between generations, between the past and the present. Honestly, seeing his eyes light up when I handed him the cane... it's worth all the contracts in the world.
